# Read what people asked and what was answered

> The Conversations screen lists every conversation your assistants have had, on any channel, with each answer and the sources it cited. It is read-only and never shows who asked.

**Conversations** lists what people asked your assistants and what they answered, with the sources each answer cited. Owners and Administrators see every conversation in the organisation, whether it was held in the Playground, through the website widget or over the API. It is read-only: nothing on this screen changes a conversation.

## Read a conversation

1. Open **Analyze → Conversations**. Each row shows the conversation's title, how many messages it has and when it was last active, most recent first.
2. Use **Search conversations** to narrow the list.
3. Select a row. The conversation opens as a sequence of questions and answers. Each answer shows its numbered citations, and an answer the assistant declined is shown as an abstention, not as an error.
4. Select **All conversations** to go back to the list.

To continue a conversation of your own, open it in the **Playground** instead.

## What the screen does not show

* **Who asked.** No name, email address or visitor identifier appears in the list or in a conversation.
* **The channel, the assistant or a rating per row.** The list shows only the title, the message count and the last activity. Usage by channel and by assistant is on the [Dashboard](/administration/analytics), and answers rated unhelpful are under [Coverage gaps](/analyze/coverage-gaps).

## Who can read conversations

| Role | Sees |
| - | - |
| Owner, Administrator | Every conversation in the organisation |
| Editor, Member | Their own conversations, in the **Playground** |
| Website visitor (through the widget) | Their own conversation, in the tab that started it |

When an Owner or Administrator opens a conversation they did not take part in, the read is recorded in the organisation's audit trail.

## With the API

[List conversations](/api-reference/conversations/list-conversations) and [Get a conversation](/api-reference/conversations/get-conversation) return the same data, under the same rule: a credential that may read other people's conversations gets the whole organisation's, and any other gets its own.

## Next steps

* Find the questions that went unanswered in [Coverage gaps](/analyze/coverage-gaps).
* See which content the answers relied on in [Source analytics](/analyze/source-analytics).
